Lake Beulah Wisconsin - Beautiful History
Lake Beulah is located in Walworth County, Wisconsin in the town of East Troy.
It's a beautiful lake with a rich history that spans over a century. The lake, which covers an area of 834 acres and has a maximum depth of 58 feet, is a popular spot for fishing, boating, and other water activities. Let's take a look at some of the history of Lake Beulah from early days to the present.
Early History:
Lake Beulah was created in the 1830s by the wooden Yonman-Johnson dam, which is now part of Highway J (by the old Double D's), creating a lake betweenEast Troy and Mukwonago. Lake Beulah was originally known as Crooked Lake before it was renamed Beulah Lake by the Jesuits. In the late 1800s, the lake was a popular spot for hunting and fishing. In the early 1900s, however, the lake began to attract more tourists, and the first cottages and resorts were built along its shores.
Development of Lake Beulah:
The famous Lake Beulah Yacht Club was established in 1893. Its members have been nationally recognized in sailboat racing and have won many prestigious awards including the Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year!
The 1920s and 1930s saw a boom in development on Lake Beulah. Many of the original cabins and cottages were replaced by larger homes, and several resorts were built and the lake quickly became a popular spot for wealthy vacationers, and it remains a popular destination to this day.
The 1940s and 1950s brought more changes to Lake Beulah. With the end of World War II, many returning soldiers were looking for a place to settle down and raise families. Lake Beulah became a popular spot for these young families, and many new lake homes were built along its shores.
Lake Beulah Today:
Lake Beulah remains a popular spot for vacationers and year-round residents alike. The lake is home to a variety of fish including Panfish, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, Sunfish, Catfish, Crappie, Bluegill, and Cisco, making it a popular spot for fishing. The lake is also a popular spot for water sports, including boating, water skiing, and wakeboarding and sailing.
In recent years, Lake Beulah has faced some challenges, including issues with water quality and invasive species. The Lake Beulah Management District was formed in 2012 to address these issues and work to preserve the lake for future generations.
